White Vintage
Which vintage white male stars did African American women find attractive?
Fortunately, nowadays there are several well-established and handsome male Black stars that African American (as well as White) women (and I guess men!) can dream about. However, I wonder who were the Black ladies dreaming about on the silver screen back in the 30s, 40s, 50s, and even 60s. I know one Black woman who had a thing for Errol Flynn.
I’m not African American, I’m a black Nigerian…but I would have to say Marlon Brando in his “A Streetcar Named Desire” days.

Blunderbuss $7.74 Produced by Jack White and recorded at his own Third Man Studio in Nashville, Blunderbuss has been described by White as “an album I couldn’t have released until now. I’ve put off making records under my own name for a long time but these songs feel like they could only be presented under my name. These songs were written from scratch, had nothing to do with anyone or anything else but my own expr… |

Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band $9.21 Before Sgt. Pepper, no one seriously thought of rock music as actual art. That all changed in 1967, though, when John, Paul, George and Ringo (with “A Little Help” from their friend, producer George Martin) created an undeniable work of art which remains, after 30-plus years, one of the most influential albums of all time. From Lennon’s evocative word/sound pictures (the trippy “Lucy in the Sky Wi… |

Revolver $8.95 Revolver wouldn’t remain the Beatles’ most ambitious LP for long, but many fans–including this one–remember it as their best. An object lesson in fitting great songwriting into experimental production and genre play, this is also a record whose influence extends far beyond mere they-was-the-greatest cheerleading. Putting McCartney’s more traditionally melodic “Here, There and Everywhere” and “Fo… |

Night Nurse [VHS] $19.98 Hellooo, nurse! Leonard Maltin introduces this “sordid and seamy” entry in the Forbidden Hollywood series of vintage pre-Hays Code melodramas that scandalized audiences with their prurient content. Dated to be sure (when was the last time you heard about crooks taking someone “for a ride?”), but this 1931 gem directed by William Wellman (Public Enemy) is still pretty strong medicine. It has sassy … |
