The Re-Invention of 1980′s Fashion Trends in 2007

The active-wear trend was rejuvenated in 2007 with body-conscious, sleek designs that showed off curves in a chic and feminine style. Re-vamped classic styles like the horizontal striped, short hoodie provided a pretty and feminine silhouette compared to the more relaxed style elements from the 80s; while exercise briefs made of lycra (from Bebe Sport), offered a more modest alternative to the high-cut leg 80s styles.

In ’07, tall slouch boots helped to re-create the bulky leg-warmer 80s silhouette, while running shoes transformed into a sleeker and more feminine version of the classic Adidas styles. Wearing a boldly colored, cotton wristband accented with colorful inter-weaving metallic thread, re-vamped the classic sweatband 80s fad and added a touch feminine charm to a sporty style. Lastly but certainly not least, sporting a colourful, classic style polycarbonate and rubber sports watch by Locman is the pice de
resistance that completed the transformation of the bright, multi-colored exercise look of the 80′s into classic ’07 style.

Another popular trend during the 1980s was the punk look. The unisex, punk street look of the 80s had gone from a body-fitted, layered silhouette to an updated pretty and chic form in 2007.

A wide-brim felt hat designed by fashion designer Almar Kyi was one chic, and feminine alternative to the classic fedora. When complimented with a pair of gold-plated pyramid studs, it offered three-dimensional form and interest compared to the 80s large metal disc, two-dimensional styles. Classic pieces such as; a two- toned, soft cotton tuxedo shirt and wool, straight legged trousers also helped to softened the harsh punk look and created sleeker lines. This look was in sharp contrast to the typical black, crisp collared shirt combined with the skinny neck-tie, v-neck sweater and slim legged black denim jeans of the 80s. Wearing a narrow style belt with interesting details (such as a Burberry double buckle belt), subtly accentuated the waist-line and provided a sleeker silhouette. This created more chic and classic style, especially when compared to the 1980s stiffer and wider designed, drop-waist belts. The addition of chain bracelets again added more visual interest, street cred’, and a bit of feminine charm compared to the heavy looking, black multi-strand rubber and metal 80s bangles.

The colorful combination of a sleek patent alligator leather clutch (in a bold orange or blue color), paired with designer Michael Kors high-heeled booties, obliterated the worn and tattered, safety pinned knapsack, combat boot 80s street punk look; therefore successfully completing the final touch of the re-invented 1980s fashion trends into classic 2007 styles.
