Plastic Surgeons analyze the impact of silicone breast implants – silicone Market Forecast Survey asps Implant
American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) – Just over half of ASPS surgeons to predict which members will perform up to 25 percent more power-ups within the next 12 months and that 40 percent or more of all patients will choose silicone breast implants. These and other findings appear in a new report by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons poll 'about the impact of the reintroduction of silicone implants.
Breast augmentation has become the top cosmetic surgery procedure in 2006, an increase of 13 percent compared to 2005. In support of this trend is the fact that 71 percent of plastic surgeons perform an average of more than five breast enhancement procedures a month. Moreover, 75 percent expect 3-10 percent of their patients at a time replace their existing saline implants silicone for purely aesthetic reasons.
"Plastic surgeons are receiving positive feedback from their increased breast cancer patients after approval of silicone breast implants. These interactions are creating an optimistic outlook for the future use of silicone implants, "said ASPS President Roxanne Guy, MD.
Surgeons ASPS members agree the facilities are safe, but some believe that their patients may still have concerns about their safety. Four of the five members responded that their concern for personal safety plant was the least significant barrier preventing their patients choose silicone breast implants. Forty percent of members said their patients' concerns 'About security could be a significant obstacle. However, 60 percent of members believe cost would be most important barrier preventing some patients to choose silicone implants.
"Every patient has different needs, which are addressed during a consultation with their plastic surgeon," said Dr. Guy. "Patients now have a wonderful advantage because they can choose between saline and silicone – a decision can do together with their plastic surgeon."
