How to Prevent Stretch Marks before they Start
One of the dreaded conditions of many women is the possibility of getting unsightly stretch marks. These marks often come about during pregnancy, aggressive body building, a growth spurt, or can be caused by medical conditions that trigger the body to quickly gain weight or fluid. Genetics and of course hormones can also play a part in the susceptibility of getting stretch marks.
When skin and underlying tissue pull and stretch beyond their ability to give, as in the later stages of pregnancy, collagen deposits in the tissues break apart or tear. As the tiny tears heal, scar tissue or stretch marks remain. Stretch marks may appear as red, pink, purple, or dark brown depressed streaks in the skin. These streaks may be minuscule or very large in appearance. Regardless of size, they are a cause embarrassment for many women.

The best treatment for stretch marks is prevention. By keeping the skins elasticity in good order, stretch marks can be avoided, or at the very least, be lessened in severity. Following a few healthy guidelines will help prevent stretch marks and sustain healthy skin.
Eat a variety foods that promote healthy skin, such as foods rich in vitamins A, C, and D, Zink, and protein. Increase your consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Drink lots of water, not caffeinated beverages, or juices, just plain water. Aim for 8, eight ounce glasses per day. Water keeps the body hydrated; therefore preventing a breakdown of the skin.
Exercise – A healthy body promotes healthy skin. Keeping the blood and oxygen flowing, nourishes and renews the skin.
Another reason to not smoke. Smoking robs the skin of valuable oxygen and makes it more susceptible to stretch marks and aging.
<b>Cream can help with Elasticity</b>
Use a good quality cream to aid in increasing the elasticity and strength of the skin. As a preventative measure, the cream should be applied at least twice per day. After a shower when the pores are thirsty, is the best time to apply stretch mark prevention cream or any body lotion. Choose a stretch mark prevention cream that contains 100% natural ingredients. Some creams containing chemicals can also cause hyper-pigmentation or brown patches on the treated area. If you are pregnant, read the label carefully. Some stretch mark prevention creams are not recommended for use during pregnancy.
