Newport News
Is there a Jungle Jim’s or a DZ Discovery Zone, or any kind of fun kids place around Newport News VA?
I am looking for a fun place like Jungle Jim’s Playland or DZ Discovery Zone to take my son. Is there anything like this around Newport News Virginia?
Virginia Living Museum in Newport News
Right across the street from the Living Museum is the Peninsula SPCA which has a zoo/sanctuary/petting zoo. Entrance is a small donation. ( Alas, not open on Sundays, but maybe another time. )
Peninsula SPCA – 523 J. Clyde Morris Blvd, Newport News, VA 23601 757-595-1399
Right off of I-64 near the Power Plant is Bluebird Gap Farm, a Hampton City -run park. A working farm, it is loads of fun for kids with programs, playground & picnic area. If it’s warm, why not grab a sandwich & takewith? A great way to let your little girl expend some energy.
Parks and Recreation – Parks and Trails
Or nature:
Right off of I-64 at Hampton Roads Center Pkwy is Sandy Bottom Nature Park with inside displays as well as a pleasant nature trail (on the short side) around the lake.
City of Hampton, Sandy Bottom Nature Park
Ride the Carousel in Downtown Hampton for $1, if you have more time, (and want to expand her scientific nature) visit the adjacent Virginia Air & Space Museum which currently has a cool exhibit all about candy. There is also a cafe in there- downtown Hampton doesn’t have too many great places to eat for kids. You can get a nice pub food /sandwiches at Taphouse on Queens Way, if you like that or there is a Burger King down the street towards Hampton U. – From there, you can get right on to go to the tunnel- you didn’t say where you were coming from.

Ellington At Newport 1956 $13.25 When Duke Ellington took his orchestra to the Newport Jazz Festival in 1956, the band was in need of an uplift, some humongous event that would revitalize its image in the wake of bebop, hard bop, and so many more jazz currents.
