No Sweeter Scent – Ralph Lauren Romance
There’s nothing more alluring than an intoxicating scent. In nature, flowers draw us to them with their hypnotizing perfume; a summer rain captures us with its earthy scent; and newly fallen leaves carry with them the smell of autumn in the air. When it comes to choosing a perfume or cologne in a bottle – we often choose those scents that are reminiscent of those to which we are naturally attracted.
There are multitudes of perfume and cologne manufacturers on the market today – each attempting to create the scent that will appeal to the masses and carve out its own niche in a fickle modern marketplace. Considering how many scents hit the shelves every year, few have been successful in relative terms. However, some products – such as Ralph Lauren Romance – have captured and held the interest of the public.
With the founding of the Polo label in 1967, Ralph Lauren introduced the world to a sophisticated new line of men’s ties that instantly rocketed to popularity. These ties – significantly wider than the traditional ties of the time – established the company’s connection to a bold and creative style.
Within two year’s time, Polo by Ralph Lauren was synonymous with men’s fashion; the company began producing sophisticated men’s wear that earned them their boutique space in Bloomingdale’s of New York City. The company introduced their first women’s line in 1971 and with that the brand became a fashion beacon for both genders.
Making its first foray into fragrance in 1978, Ralph Lauren introduced Polo for Men and Lauren (for women) to the market. The products garnered such popularity that the fragrance line continued to expand; new products were added to the fragrance line one by one as consumers embraced each one. Today, the company continues to produce a wide variety of both men’s and women’s fragrances – all of which have been enormously successful in the industry.
Ralph Lauren Romance was introduced in 1998 and quickly followed up with Ralph Lauren Romance for Men a year later. Both fragrances won The Fragrance Foundation’s FiFi Fragrance Start of the Year in their prospective launch years.
Ralph Lauren Romance, the women’s fragrance, unites hints of ginger, rose, and oak – a combination that is both clean and refined. The bottle – offered at 1.7 oz. and 3.4 oz. – has simple lines and a spray dispenser. Women often remark how convenient it is to slip into a purse or overnight bag. Of course, along with the perfume comes a host of complementary products including bath and shower gel, hand cream, and body moisturizer.
Ralph Lauren Romance for Men has a clean woody scent – with a hint of citrus. Also available in a 1.7 oz. and 3.4 oz. spray, the cologne can be purchased separately or as part of grooming gift sets that feature the cologne, aftershave, and shower gel.
The Ralph Lauren fragrance line ultimately owes its popularity to the overall commitment of the company that manufacturers them. Since its beginning thirty years ago, Polo by Ralph Lauren has maintained a strong commitment to quality, sophistication, and spectacular style.

When a Man Loves a Woman [VHS] $1.40 When a Man Loves a Woman is a dumb title (not another classic pop song, please) for a very smart movie. A kind of gender-switch take on The Lost Weekend, it’s about a woman (Meg Ryan) whose alcoholism almost destroys her family. That may sound like just another TV movie, but When a Man Loves a Woman is so authentic in detail and emotion, that everything about it seems fresh, urgent, and engrossing… |
