Hot Maternity Outfit Ideas for the Summer

Finding suitable maternity outfits is difficult already. The added pressure of the summer heat, however, adds a whole new layer of difficulty to shopping for maternity clothes for the upcoming months. With your figure constantly changing and the sweltering heat preventing you from covering everything up with a long winter coat, it can be stressful. But not to worry. There are plenty of great maternity style alternatives for the summer. Here are just a few that will keep you looking great and feeling cool.

Shift and Print Sundresses
Shift dresses were the iconic, chic item of clothing of the 60s and they are making a strong comeback today. The shift dress hangs straight down from the shoulder, is sleeveless so you’ll keep cool in the heat, and comes in colorful patterns perfect for the summer. Its design is naturally suited for the maternity wear. The print sundress has a little more shape definition than the shift dress, but it’s still great for mothers-to-be looking stay fashionable, comfortable and light.

Swimsuits
If you’re comfortable showing off your new belly in a two-piece, great. But if you’d rather wear something more discrete, you can still do so while looking great. Wear a swimsuit that has the extra needed support for your bust, and wear a beach cover-up or light tunic over it. As a bonus: the tunic can work as a mini-dress or worn over Capri pants later on.

Soft Knits
Soft knit fabrics are perfect for when you want to stay casual and comfortable in the summer. Whether it’s a skirt, a t-shirt, a pair of lounge pants, or shorts, fine knits will feel cool against warm skin and can be versatile in terms of style. You can mix and match for different looks.

Lightweight Cardigan
While you might not need a tweed jacket this summer, a lightweight cardigan can be perfect for those cool summer nights. Maternity fashion relies on plain colors and simple designs. A cardigan can add a layer of flair to a maternity dress or top.

Empire Waist

The empire waist dress has become one of the most popular maternity fashion items in recent years. It has a seam just below the bust and then flows outward over the belly. It gives you both comfort and body shape. There are empire waist dresses for every occasion. Light, strapless maternity dresses with empire waists are perfect for the summer months.

And while you’re putting your summer outfits together, remember to accentuate them with colorful accessories. This is the season for loud, bright earrings and necklaces, so don’t be afraid to have fun with it.
