1. Changing the World of Philanthropy
Minister Terrance A. Bridges believes in the power of music to unite people with God, singing in the church choir from the age of six and directing since he was 13. By the time he was 15, Bridges was ordained to preach the gospel, and at 17 he became one of the first Bill Gates Millennium Scholars, founding Kingdom Force International Ministries, Inc., a group dedicated to the physical and spiritual renewal of third-world countries. Bridges serves today as Kingdom Force’s Chief Executive Officer.
At Regent, Bridges is all-but-dissertation (ABD) in his work toward a Doctor of Education.
2. Changing the World of Comedy
Actor Tony Hale is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Byron “Buster” Bluth on TV’s Arrested Development. Hale’s acting career also includes roles on NBC’s Andy Barker P.I., Chuck, and Showtime’s United States of Tara, as well as major motion pictures Stranger Than Fiction, Because I Said So, and The Informant!
After graduating from Regent’s School of Communication and the Arts, Hale lived in New York City for nearly a decade, where he founded the Haven, an artistically minded Christian ministry.
3. Changing the World of Advocacy
Miss America 1999 Nicole Johnson is an international diabetes advocate, travelling extensively to promote awareness, prevention, and intensive management of the condition she has shared for 15 years.
This 1998 Regent Master’s of Arts in Journalism graduate is the Telly Award-winning host of the weekly CNBC diabetes talk show dLifeTV, and has written four books, including her autobiography Living With Diabetes. Nicole also formed the Nicole Johnson Foundation to help address gaps in diabetes education.
4. Changing the World of Industry
Public servant and Regent alum Lisa Kruska is the nation’s first Assistant Secretary of Labor by Presidential nomination and U.S. Senatorial confirmation. She served under Secretary Elaine L. Chao, who oversaw the establishment of the Center for Faith-Based & Community Initiatives.
5. Changing the World of Literature
Charles Martin is an acclaimed author of six books, including Where the River Ends. Martin graduated from Florida State University before earning his M.A. in Journalism and Ph.D. in Communication from Regent University.
He has served as an adjunct English professor at Hampton University and as a doctoral fellow at Regent. In 1999, he left a career in business to pursue his writing.
6. Changing the World of Politics
Robert F. “Bob” McDonnell, the 44th Attorney General of Virginia, is now campaigning full-time for Governor in the 2009 race.
After graduating with a B.B.A. in Management from the University of Notre Dame in 1976, McDonnell served four years in the Unites States Army and 16 in the Army Reserve, running a medical clinic in Germany from 1976 to 1979 and in Newport News, Va., from 1979 to 1981. He is a 1989 graduate of Regent, where he earned an M.A./J.D.
7. Changing the World of Film
A winner of the 2006-2007 Art Within Labs program, Cheryl McKay holds a Master’s of Fine Arts from Regent and has been a professional writer for more than a decade. McKay wrote the screenplay for The Ultimate Gift, an award-winning film adaptation released by Fox in 2007 and starring James Garner, Brian Dennehy, and Abigail Breslin.
McKay also wrote the DVD for Gigi: God’s Little Princess as well as the Wild & Wacky Totally True Bible Stories audio series and books with Frank Peretti. Her screenplay, Never the Bride, was adapted into a novel for Random House Publishers and released in June 2009.
8. Changing the World of Law
Attorney Jay Sekulow earned his Ph.D. from Regent University, writing his dissertation on the subject of American Legal History.
In 1990 Sekulow became the director of the American Center for Law and Justice. In addition to his duties as Chief Counsel for the ACLJ, he hosts Jay Sekulow Live!, a syndicated daily radio program that airs on nearly 850 stations nationwide. Sekulow is also the host of ACLJ This Week, a weekly television news program broadcast on TBN.
9. Changing the World of Music
Christian recording artist Jason Upton found initial success though his appearances at Lou Engle’s movement The Call. Since graduating from Regent with a Master’s of Divinity, Upton has been singing and leading worship all over the country and around the world. He has appeared twice on The 700 Club.
10. Changing the World of Public Service
A graduate of Regent’s Master’s of Arts in Communication program, Louisiana State Senator Sharon Weston Broome has served as an elected official for nearly 20 years, and is one of the Baton Rouge Business Report’s “top 25 most influential women.”
In addition to serving as a reporter for ABC-Affiliate WBRZ-TV for five years, Broome has made various television appearances, including The Montel Williams Show, The 700 Club, Court TV’s Your Turn, and CTN Live!
