Celia Tickets- Come See a Tribute to a Salsa Legend

Celia tickets are almost as hot as the performer the musical is based off of, Celia Cruz. The Salsa songstress held audiences captive with her stunning voice and vibrant personality. The decorated artist was even presented a National Endowment for the Arts from President Bill Clinton. She was born in Cuba in 1925. Her father pushed her to become a teacher and stay in school, but Celia had other ideas and other family members supported her. She heard many musical influences there and eventually started singing for a radio station in Havana. She won singing contests until she became the lead singer for the La Sonora Matancera orchestra. She stayed with the orchestra for 15 years.

Celia met the love of her life, Pedro Knight, through the orchestra. He was a trumpet player and the two were together until her death. The orchestra moved to Mexico after Fidel Castro took over Cuba. Soon after, she started her solo career and moved to New York City, where she played with Tito Puente, another Latin musician. She churned out hits with flautist and composer Johnny Pacheco while there including “Toro Mata” and “Canto a la Habana.” She recorded songs with big names like Wyclef Jean, Patti Labelle, Gloria Estefan and Marc Anthony. She performed almost up until her death in 2003 from a brain tumor. See her story brought to life with Celia tickets of your own.

The story is told from the perspective of husband Pedro Knight. He is played by Modesto Lacen, who has been in theater productions like Medea and Othello. Puerto Rican salsa dancer and singer Anissa Gathers plays Celia. Wilson Mendieta plays Tito Puente and has been on Broadway in Man of La Mancha and Bombay Dreams. Carmen Rivera and Candido Tirado wrote the book for Celia. Tirado has written productions like King Without a Castle and First Class. Rivera has written productions like La Lupe: My Life and La Gringa.

Along with her award from the White House, Cruz was awarded lifetime achievement awards from the Hispanic Heritage Organization and the Smithsonian. She has won three Grammy Awards and four Latin Grammy Awards. There is a street named after her in Miami and a star on the Hollywood walk of fame. She still lives on in the hearts of her fans.
