Boned Corset

Corsets: The Pros And Cons

Corset refers to a bodice or a tight-fitting undergarment worn by women to mold or shape the torso in an hourglass like figure. This concept originally belongs to the Middle Ages when corsets formed an integral part of women fashion wearas it helped them enhance their assets. The close fitting of corset helps reduce the waist and exaggerate the bust and hips, transforming the body into a curvaceous figure.

These are mostly made up of stretchable material like cloth or leather and are firmed at the required areas by inserting boning structures like whalebone into channels. The entire bodice is held together with the help of laces either in the front or on the back of it.

Corsets no doubt helps in getting the most voluptuous figure yet it has to be used very carefully as it can also lead to serious health hazards. The health problems due to corsets were quite common in the middle ages because the women were ignorant of it, but today females are more aware and conscious about their health and hence they use corsets in a limited way.

Like every other thing, corsets too have its own pros and cons. It can indeed be instrumental in carving out an extremely appealing posture. Besides, it is a remedial body garment for people with back problems as it helps in straightening the back and thus, reducing the pain. Yet, its overuse or wrong use can lead to either dehydration or Glenard’s disease which actually refers to the deformation of lower ribs. In an extreme case, the disease can even lead to organ failure. Deformation of stomach and lever are other severe consequences of wearing corsets.

Today corsets have become a unisex body garment as on one hand, women wear corsets to get a sexy feminine fashionable silhouette while on the other, men wear it to tone up and slimmer up their torsos. Now-a-days women tops in corset form are also available in markets.
