The Right Way to Choose Eyewear

Glasses are now seen as part of a person’s accessories. Today, eyeglasses do more than just help you with your vision—they also need to look good on you.

There is a way of choosing the right frame for you, based on the contour of your face and your complexion. Here are a few notes you should remember when choosing the frame of your eyewear:

Eyewear should complement your best facial feature (such as a blue frame to match blue eyes).

The frame shape should contrast with your face shape. So if you’re square faced, avoid frames that are rectangular. If you have a long face, then getting glasses with a fuller frame should suit you more. A rounded face can pull off rectangular frames; while an oval shaped face can complement any frame shape.

The frame size should be in scale with your face size. Getting glasses that look too big on you will even make your face look smaller. Of, course, there is a “Jackie O’” trend with the over-sized sunglasses, but when we’re talking about corrective glasses, or even those with no grade, proportionate scaling is still the best way to go.

Skin tone is the prime element in determining what colour of eyewear you should choose. All complexions fall into one of two colour bases — blue (cool) or yellow (warm). A cool complexion has blue or pink undertones, and a warm complexion has a “peaches and cream” or yellow cast. Olive skin is considered cool because it is a mixture of blue and yellow. (In the United States, cool, blue-based complexions are more common than the yellow-based warm complexions. About 60 percent of the population are “cools.”

Your eye’s color is a secondary consideration for the color of your eyeglasses. For example, blue eyes can range from a cool almost-violet to a pale blue-gray, which is warm. Brown eyes can vary from a light cider shade (warm) through a medium-brown to a cool almost-black. It’s always good to choose an eyewear whose color is not too far along your eye color’s shade. Of course, sunglasses are a whole new arena since your eyes won’t be seen when you’re wearing them.

You hair color should also be a consideration when picking the color of your glasses. Strawberry blond, platinum, blue-black, white, salt-and-pepper and “dishwater” brown are cool. Warm hair colors include golden blond, flat black, brown-gold, “carrot” and “dirty” gray. Complement, complement, complement.

Sunglasses provide more leeway when it comes to options. Since they are more accepted as accessories, then you could either play it down or level it up. However, always remember that they also provide protection for your eyes, so getting a good pair of protective sunglasses is always recommended. Make a fashion statement while protecting your eyes.

Brand is an important factor when choosing eyewear. Designer brands are also the most durable brands so investing on a good pair is not so bad. Some of the most trusted brands when it comes to eyewear are BCBG, Caviar, Cazal, Juicy Couture, Police, Costa del Mar, Jaguar, Jhane Barnes, Lulu Guinness, LaCoste, bebe, Vera Wang, Menezzi, Daniel Swarovski, Jimmy Choo, Marc Jacobs, Nicole Miller, Carrera, Goldfinch, TMX, Alex Nicole, and Diva.
